June is Pride month and marks the beginning of Pride Season, so today we’re sending a big shout out to our friends at the Rainbow Center, Kitsap Pride, the Puyallup Tribe, and many other incredible groups and organizations putting together vibrant, affirming Pride events all across our community. We’re excited to be able to attend Pride events in both of the counties we serve, including Tacoma Pride on July 12 and the Kitsap Pride Festival on July 19. See you next month for these amazing events!
At Rebuilding Hope, we honor the spirit of Pride year-round. We understand that LGBTQ+ people are five times more likely than non-LGBTQ+ people to experience violent victimization, including sexual assault. We also acknowledge the racial disparities that cause BIPOC LGBTQ+ folks to face the highest rates of victimization overall. The healing services that we offer victim-survivors are available to ALL Pierce and Kitsap county residents, regardless of sexual orientation, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, age, income, and any other characteristic. Everyone deserves safety, healing, and support.
This month, we’re also celebrating Juneteenth, a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S. This day holds massive significance as a celebration of Black freedom, history, and joy. Last week, we had the honor of attending the Juneteenth Freedom Festival & People’s March in Kitsap County. Next up, we’re excited to join Juneteenth- A Road to Economic Freedom in Tacoma on June 19!
